MPEG-5 Essential Video Coding (EVC) is an international video compression standard developed by MPEG (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11). The standard consists of bitstream specification, decoder specification, conformance specification and reference software.
The MPEG-5 project started in 2018, and a Call-for-Proposals (CfP) was issued in October 2018. Divideon was one of the companies that responded to the CfP and has continued to contribute to the standardization process. The MPEG-5 EVC standard was completed and published in 2020.
